Biography

Woody Blackwell sculpts with recycled and reclaimed materials.  Galvanized steel, antique tins, bottle caps, paint, wood, and lots of nails.  A wide range of mixed media frees him to explore materials, textures, patterns, color.  His work balances anatomical accuracy with stylized interpretation, as well as the aesthetic of wabi sabi and the process of entropy.

Blackwell’s pieces appear aged, as if made 100 years ago by an artistic fisherman working with items he had at hand to replicate the beauty of wild animals.

Blackwell holds degrees in art and biology. He began sculpting and reflecting on the natural world in 1994.
